A WEST Somerset woman who was behaving in a disorderly fashion in public and causing people alarm has been given a conditional discharge by magistrates.

Cheryl Maguire, aged 50, of Belle Vue, Old Cleeve, pleaded guilty when she appeared in Taunton Deane Magistrates Court on Monday (September 28).

Prosecuting solicitor Emma Lenanton said Maguire had been using threatening or abusive words and, or, behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress in Watchet on August 25 this year.

District Judge Angela Brereton said she had taken Maguire’s guilty plea into account in sentencing her and conditionally discharged her for six months.

Judge Brereton also ordered Maguire to pay £40 toward Crown Prosecution Service costs and a £26 victim fund surcharge.
