VOTERS in Watchet had an additional vote to cast at Thursday's polls.

A by-election to fill a vacancy on the town council saw Janet Tapp elected.

Mrs Tapp, who has served on the council previously, beat rival Michael Whetlor by 769 votes to 311 in a contest that saw a 37 per cent turnout.

The vacancy was caused by the resignation of Ann Snelling earlier this year.
