I agree with Heather Beaver who wrote last week about the traffic problems on the A39.

Washford is a village cut in half by the A39, and crossing at any point is difficult.

Those who live on the southern side, the Quarry Road estate, take their lives in their hands when they cross the road to get to the school, village hall or any of the other amenities.

Yes, a crossing would help there, but that still leaves 50 yards or so, left and right of the narrow road, to circumvent with no pavement – and with prams and kids to marshal amongst the traffic on an “A class” road that doesn’t even allow two vehicles to pass each other if one is wider than the average car.

We need to start talking about a by-pass again but, as usual, nothing will happen and no action will be taken to improve the situation – unless we have a couple of pensioners willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the community and throw themselves under a lorry.
