RESIDENTS and other volunteers have been thanked for helping clean up the sea front in Minehead on Saturday (March 21).

The town council organised a community beach clean as part of a national ‘Great British Spring Clean’ event.

It was the first time the council had joined the initiative, which is run by Keep Britain Tidy, the country’s leading anti-litter charity.

Spring sunshine welcomed residents, families, community groups, and other volunteers who gathered outside Minehead’s Beach Hotel before heading to the beach and The Esplanade for two hours of collective action and environmental care.

A council spokesperson said: “Volunteers worked with great energy and enthusiasm, removing a substantial amount of litter from the coastline as well as carrying out weed removal along The Esplanade.

“Their efforts have made a visible and positive difference, helping to protect local wildlife, reducing pollution, and ensuring the sea front remains a welcoming, attractive space for both residents and visitors.”

The spokesperson said a special ‘thank you’ went to Keith Hunt, from the town’s eco shop My Precious Earth, for his continued support, not just in helping with Saturday’s event, ‘but for his ongoing, year‑round dedication to keeping Minehead clean, cared for, and environmentally-respected’.

They said: “His contribution remains invaluable to the town.

“The council is grateful to everybody who gave their time, whether for a few minutes or the full session.

“The strong turnout reflects the fantastic community spirit in Minehead and shows what can be achieved when people come together with a shared commitment to improving their local environment.

“If Saturday’s event has inspired you to organise your own litter pick or take part in other tidy‑up activities, Minehead Town Council would love to hear from you.

“The council is keen to support and promote further community initiatives that help keep Minehead clean, green, and thriving.”
