SNOWDROP season has arrived on Exmoor again with visitors being encouraged to see spectacular displays of the flowers this year from January 27 through to February 25.

The privately-owned Snowdrop Valley, near Wheddon Cross, will be open to visitors during that period courtesy of landowner the Badgworthy Land Company.

Thousands of people visit Snowdrop Valley each year and take advantage of transport organised by Cutcombe Parish Council.

Snowdrops are one of the first plants to flower in the New Year and are said to herald the coming of spring.

Many visitors use the various walking routes to reach the valley a mile outside the village.

Main parking for the event will be in Cutcombe Cattle Market’s car park, where the council charges £5 for the day and staffs an information kiosk from 9 am to 4 pm daily.

On market days – January 31, and February 7 and 15 - alternative parking will be available at the Rest and Be Thankful public house car park, where public toilets are also located.

Road access to Snowdrop Valley is closed to all vehicles except permit holders during the event dates.

A Land Rover private hire taxi service is also available to be booked in advance on some days with Red Stag Safari owner Andrew Turner.

This year’s visitors are being warned of a road closure on the B3224 between Exford and Wheddon Cross which will take them on a diversion via Winsford and mean a longer journey.
