LICENSEES in Williton have joined forces to keep unruly customers out of their pubs. Royal Huntsman landlord Rick Allen is behind the decision to set up a local 'pub watch' scheme which will see a blanket ban imposed on anyone guilty of serious anti-social behaviour. The scheme has won the support of all licensed premises in the village - the Masons Arms, the Foresters Arms, the Wyndham and Williton Social Club. It was launched this week following a meeting between the licensees. Mr Allen told the Free Press: "Although we haven't had any huge difficulties, we recognised that there were a few problems affecting us all. "We belong to a districtwide pub watch run by the Licensed Victuallers Association but if someone is banned from a pub in Washford we don't really know who they are. "Having a scheme in the village and keeping it local just makes sense." Mr Allen said the blanket ban would not affect customers causing minor problems in individual pubs. It would be restricted to anyone 'guilty' of aggressive behaviour, verbal abuse or damage to and theft of property. "We've had a very positive response from the licensees," said Mr Allen. "The general idea is to nip any potential problems in the bud, which is in the best interests of the licensees, staff and customers. "All our customers are excellent, bar the odd one or two, and they don't want to have to put up with any trouble when they come into our pubs for a drink."
