Porlock’s annual carnival, set to take place on September 4, has been cancelled, the carnival committee decided this week.

Spokesman Kevin Proctor said the decision came reluctantly after ‘serious deliberations’.

He added: “The carnival committee polled the whole village and although many people wished the event to go ahead, there were some serious concerns raised about pavement overcrowding and the ability to maintain social distancing that we felt we were unable to adequately address.

“We hope to be back next year bigger and better than ever before. Thank you to everyone for your support and kind generosity, it is most appreciated.”
