SIR — Ordinary people all over the world are being tortured by their governments despite it being illegal. Amnesty International has campaigned against torture for over half a century and 30 years ago helped secure an historic global ban. Sadly however, torture is still used to obtain "confessions", silence opposition or simply to punish. The Minehead group is supporting the Amnesty campaign and is holding a vigil outside the Methodist Church in Minehead on June 26 from 12.30pm and a letter writing session at the Quaker Meeting House from 2pm. Come and support us - campaigners all over the world will be taking part in a day of action to show solidarity for victims of torture. Jill Walmsley, Minehead Group, Amnesty International.
