Passengers, including children on the way to school, had to be evacuated from their bus after it caught fire in Minehead.

Devon and Somerset Fire Rescue responded to an 8am call this morning (15th July) after the bus engine burst into flames near the Rugby Club in Minehead.

The single decker bus engine compartment was destroyed by fire.

There were several people on board at the time, including school children. Fortunately, no one was injured and the fire was extinguished, with the Minehead fire crew calling it a “straight forward job”.

Local resident Brian Hall was first on the scene and captured the fire on his phone. He said: “I thought it was going to explode as it looked unbelievably bad from the back.”
