HUNDREDS of visitors attended the Allerford Victorian Village Christmas Event on Saturday (November 30).

They enjoyed meeting the blacksmiths at Allerford Forge and seeing the craftsmen at work on the traditional coal forge.

And they also viewed the interesting artifacts and archives of the West Somerset Rural Life Museum. Many children and adults visited the old school classroom of the museum and experienced Victorian school lesson.

Kieren Roberts, of West Country Blacksmiths, said: “We thank everyone for visiting our village and we hope everyone enjoyed the experience.

“It was heartwarming to see so many people enjoying this beautiful village. We will look to arrange more events throughout 2020, however the village is here to enjoy all year round.

“It has the benefits of a free car park, beautiful ancient woodlands, the stunning packhorse bridge, a children’s play area and a tea room and garden, making Allerford an ideal place to visit or plan a walk.”

The West Somerset Rural Life Museum is run by a handful of volunteers who welcome new team members as well as groups or organisations that would like to arrange a visit to the museum.

The museum will now be closed until the spring, however people may contact Pauline Hall on 01643 863104 or email [email protected].
