County councillor Hugh Davies, who recently chaired a meeting of representatives of the eight local councils along the number 14 route, told councillors that five bus companies had been approached.
But he said the county council was still waiting for information on what services, if any, they could provide.
Another alternative was a two-days-a-week shopper service giving passengers two hours in Bridgwater but this also was still in the discussion stage, as was a local service linking Doniford and Williton.
Chairman Cllr Peter Murphy said a £100,000 a year number 14 service was clearly beyond the ability of parishes along the route to fund even if they wanted to.
