MINEHEAD Running Club member Vanessa Saunders-Singer faces her biggest challenge since taking up running two years ago.

She will be competing in the London Marathon on April 28 hoping to raise at least £2,000 for dementia and Alzheimer’s research.

A member of the Dementia Revolutionaries fund-raising group, Vanessa said: “We are all running with someone special in mind. We all know somebody who has been affected by dementia or Alzheimer’s, either as a carer or a sufferer.”

Vanessa is running in memory of her mother-in-law Evelyn Saunders-Singer: “She was an amazing woman who had time for everyone and kept the family together.”

She added: “Dementia is not a lost cause. That is why we have started the Dementia Revolution to raise money for research.

“We want to find a cure.”

Vanessa’s fund-raising includes a coffee morning at Minehead hospital last week which raised £245. She is also planning an event at Minehead Rugby Club on March 8 with a live band and food by Claire’s Kitchen.

“I’ve had great support from family and friends,” Vanessa said. “When I started, I never contemplated running this far.”
