I am not a resident of West Somerset but I do visit Minehead several times a year travelling on the West Somerset Railway.
I have been looking at what the Minehead Rail Link Group have been saying and there are many comments I could make on their proposals, however unless the editor wants me to expand I will stick to one.
Rather than the proposed commuter rail link to Taunton which would be very expensive and take several years to put in place, even once the funding was available, what about a limited stop bus service instead? It could either have staffed stops where tickets, including through rail tickets could be purchased before boarding or a conductor.
Clearly this might offer a service very similar in terms of travel time and ’passenger experience’ to a train and unlike the proposed commuter rail service could be put in place almost immediately at a much lower cost.
