FOR four years, over 100 gabions have been taking up eight parking spaces on Blue Anchor seafront – and Old Cleeve Parish Council thinks it is high time they moved on.
At a parish meeting on Monday November 14, it was unanimously agreed that the wire baskets of stones should be removed as a matter of urgency.
Residents said the rusting wire cage, festooned with weeds and birds’ nests, had blighted the seafront for long enough.
The gabions, donated by the Bridgwater flood protection scheme, originally arrived to help prevent further cliff erosion in front of the Blue Anchor Hotel but budget cuts prevented the work.
Recently, councillors were told that the gabions would be used in the construction of the Steam Coast Trail but it transpired they were unsuitable for the project.
Cllr Margaret Smith said: “We have been extremely patient and it is now time to highlight the issue in the Free Press.”
