VISITORS to Minehead's Acorns Nursery could be forgiven for thinking they are seeing double as there are five sets of twins.
The ten children, who make up a third of the total roll of 30, are Ruby and Poppy Bayley, aged 16 months,two-year-olds Seb and Eliza Brain-Hamilton, Daisy and Harry Thomas, also two, Teddy and Ronny Kingston, aged four, and Grace and Isabel Horton
Added to that, 17-year-old Milly Paine, one of the students training in the nursery, is a triplet!
Acorns Nursery, which opened full time in September 2012 is based at the West Somerset Community College in Minehead, and Milly's brother Henry and sister Georgia are also training at the college's Skills and Enterprise Centre.
The nursery - which achieved a 'good' in all areas in its first Ofsted inspection - provides affordable childcare for the local community and is also a valuable training facility for those wishing to become childcare practitioners.
According to the National Office of Statistics' 2011 report, there were 11,502 pregnancies resulting in multiple births in England and Wales, accounting for little over three per cent of all UK births, triplets make up just 0.07 per cent of UK births.
Nursery manager Julie Lindley said: "I have worked in nurseries with one, maybe two, sets of twins but I have never seen as many as five. It is a unique environment in which to work and very enjoyable. They are all very close."
The nursery is holding an open afternoon between 4pm and 7pm on Thursday May 16 for parents to come and view the childcare facilities and meet nursery staff. Those who would like to attend should contact Candice Dean at [email protected]">[email protected].
