TRUSTEES of historic Dunster Tithe Barn are throwing open its doors for several summer afternoons to allow people to experience the building.

Public tours will be given on four consecutive Tuesday afternoons next month, while the building will also be open after lunch on Thursdays.

One of the trustees, Barbara Bryan, said: “We get a lot of requests and thought it would be lovely to be open and just show anybody around and learn a bit about its history.

“If successful, we will look to make both types of open afternoons regular annual events in our calendar.”

Ms Bryan said visitors would be able to ‘drop in to view our historic building and see first hand the fantastic unique venue at the heart of our beautiful village’.

They would also be able to meet members of the Tithe Barn team, tour the building, and learn about its history.

The property will be open on August 1, 4, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, and 24 from 3 pm to 4 pm on the Tuesdays, which would be a public tour, and from 2 pm to 4 pm on the Thursday.

Entry is free, with donations accepted.

This weekend, the trustees are also offering a free opportunity for businesses and local groups to use the building to promote themselves and explain how they played a part in village life.

The sessions are being held between 2 pm and 4 pm on Friday and Saturday (July 28 and 29).
