TOWNS and villages across West Somerset stood silent and honoured the lives lost in a century of conflicts at Remembrance services and tributes across the district this week.

Many communities gathered on both Remembrance Sunday and on Tuesday - Remembrance Day - as the nation marked the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One and commemorated the casualties of battles across the decades.

Even children, including those at Minehead's Acorns Nursery (pictured), made their own poppy wreath before laying it at the town's war memorial in a mark of respect.
