Tragic death in Africa A MINEHEAD man has died in apparently tragic circumstances while on a backpacking holiday in Africa. Daniel Gaydon, aged 26, was rushed to hospital in Zanzibar in Tanzania after collapsing in a bar. Unconfirmed reports suggested he may have been vomiting before being taken to hospital where he died. A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed it had received a report of Mr Gaydon's death on Wednesday. A post mortem was carried out on Wednesday but the results are not known. Mr Gaydon was a familiar face in West Somerset and was known for his love of photography and travel. He had embarked on a number of foreign adventures and home-grown charity fundraising schemes, many of which were featured in the Free Press. His parents Dave and Chris were preparing to fly out to Africa yesterday (Thursday) as news of his death sent shockwaves through the local community. Mr Gaydon was a former student at the West Somerset Community College and had two sisters, Hannah and Elaine.
