A SLIGHT fall in the numbers attending and some drizzly rain which arrived for this year’s Porlock Country Fair did not dampen spirits as it again proved to be its usual great event for the village.

Organisers expect to have raised about £4,000 for the ongoing maintenance of the recreation ground where it was held.

There were more stallholders than ever, providing everything from crafts and knitting to woodwork, painting and glass work, leather goods to cakes, and information from beekeeping to Exmoor Ponies and Westcountry wildlife.

Emergency services were represented by Porlock firefighters, Exmoor Search and Rescue, and National Coastwatch, while Porlock footballers provided their traditional ‘Grannie’s Attic’ and there was a tombola supported by the village’s businesses and residents.

A fun dog show was judged by John Gage, of Glenmore Vets, Minehead, and an additional attraction this year was a young Harris hawk.

There were also Higher Beings’ stilt walkers, a Bubble Fairy, and games by Minehead Eye and Porlock Ladies’ Football Club.

A wide variety of catering was provided by Richard Little’s hog roast and burgers, the Wood-Fired Pizza company, Porlock Vale Chef, Caribbean Kitchen, Styles ice cream van, teas, cakes, and light lunches by Porlock Ladies, and a Top Ship bar.
