EXMOOR Search and Rescue Team (ESRT) finished a creditable fifth place in this year’s International Search and Rescue Games (SAR), held in Svelvik, Norway.

The four-strong team were tested with 30 high-pressure rescue scenarios in challenging conditions across two days and a night.

An ESRT spokesperson said: “The locals really upped their game this year as the weather, high winds, played havoc with the games.”

The contest was won by NF Oslo Øst, with locals Svelvik Rode Kors runners-up, and the UK’s West Mercia third.

Four other Exmoor team members also attended as guides.

The spokesperson said: “As the event gets bigger, this was a vital role to get all the participants to the correct scenarios in a timely way, as well as muck in with the cooking.”
