Old community defibrillator replaced by Minehead Barbarians Rugby ClubUnable to operate last year due to the Covid pandemic, the brightly-painted kiosk has been doing brisk business selling tea, coffee, cold drinks and light refreshments to residents and visitors to the gardens.
“While the Blenheim Gardens cafe is closed for refurbishment, people really appreciate being able to sit outside, safely, in the fresh air in beautiful surroundings and enjoy a tea or coffee and chat to their friends,” said Gateway’s Toni Bloomfield.
“We are open from 10am-2.30pm Monday to Thursday and 10am-5pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday until October when the weather is fine. All the money we raise either goes into running the kiosk or into community events.
“We are always looking for more volunteers to help out in the kiosk for however long or short a time, and it’s a very pleasant job.”
Toni added that after being unable to money-raise for nearly two years, Gateway now has events planned for this summer including a family fun day at Irnham recreation ground on Sunday, August 22, following the official opening of the new community centre on Friday, August 20.
