SIR — I have tried to establish how West Somerset District Council has managed to make such a pig's ear of administering West Somerset, whilst running a small council.
Having read Cllr Keith Ross's letter (Free Press October 29) I am now more able to understand.
He has obviously not attended the meetings I have read about or he has slept through the many highly sensitive issues that have been debated. These issues have all been very well reported in local and national newspapers.
Just to remind Cllr Ross, suspension, sacking and resignation have been the end result of some of these issues.
But also, I seem to remember that it was Cllr Ross who said at a Watchet Regeneration meeting in March 1999 that the mud dredged from Watchet harbour during the marina construction could be used to "fill up" the hole left in the Holm sand bank where the sand would be dredged for Minehead's beach replacement.
Cllr Ross was not on his own with brilliant suggestions, as our county councillor said at the same regeneration meeting that if the Watchet Marina was unsuccessful we could rip it out after 4/5 years.
As I have suggested in the past, the time is fast approaching when West Somerset District Council should be wound up. We would be far better off being administered by either Sedgemoor or Taunton Deane.
