A COMMUNITY consultation event will be held next week for residents in an Exmoor village to find out about plans by a housing association to build new homes.

Hastoe Housing Association is looking at building ‘affordable’ homes on the edge of Timberscombe on land owned by the Church .

Information on the plans, described as ‘emerging proposals’, will be available at a drop-in session in Timberscombe Village Hall between 3 pm and 7 pm on Tuesday, November 10.

An Exmoor Rural Housing Network spokesperson said: “It is open to anybody, but will be of particular relevance to existing residents and anybody in housing need with a valid local connection to Timberscombe or one of the adjacent parishes.

“We want to share information about the site, which is on the north and west side of the A396, opposite the playing field, and hear local views before any decisions are made.”

Hastoe is working in collaboration with Somerset Council, the Housing Project, Exmoor Young Voices, and Homes England Self Commissioned Homes Unit.

It is looking at fields owned by the Bath and Wells Diocesan Board of Finance with a view to building affordable housing for local people, including homes for rent and plots for individual self-build.

The spokesperson said residents attending Hastoe’s drop-in session would be able to view information about the proposed development, learn about local affordable housing need for local people, ask questions and provide feedback, and help to shape any future proposals.

They said: “They are looking forward to seeing you and hearing your views.

“There is no need to book, please feel free to drop in at any time.”

Hastoe is an approved affordable housing development partner of Somerset Council specialising in small-scale, environmentally sensitive rural housing schemes which has previously developed the Townsend Farm site in Carhampton.
