A FIRST school, a pre-school and a village hall in West Somerset are in line for massive cash boosts from the 5p levy on Tesco carrier bags.
The supermarket has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative, which sees grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the bag levy – being awarded to environmental and green-space projects.
Three groups in each of Tesco’s 416 regions have been shortlisted to receive cash awards – in the Minehead store’s area they are Watery Lane Pre-school, Old Cleeve First School and Bicknoller Village Hall.
All three will get one of the grants on offer – who gets which one will depend on Tesco customers, who will be able to vote for which one they want to received the biggest, using tokens given to them at the check-out between Monday October 31 and November 13.
