SIR — On Tuesday August 4, 60 children descended on Carhampton Recreation Ground playing field to enjoy an excellent day of fun and games courtesy of the CLOWNS Summer Play Scheme.

But first, play leaders had to set to and collect unsightly, potentially dangerous dog waste - filling three large bags!

Why oh why do some dog owners not dispose of their dogs’ waste in the bin provided on site?

There is really no excuse for such anti-social behaviour and it is now time to wage war on those selfish people who are putting children’s health at risk and causing untold damage to the otherwise pristine cricket pitch.

A team of volunteers spends many hours preparing and maintaining the field and yet these thoughtless dog owners leave their dogs’ faeces hidden in the grass, spoiling what should be a safe, clean environment for people,  both young and old, to enjoy.

So if you are walking your dog on the field, please, please always pick up their waste!

And a big thank you to the majority of responsible dog owners who do use the bin provided!

Pauline Else,

Carhampton Recreation Committee.
