SIR — For 30 years a resident in this area of Minehead's North Hill, I have contacted the planning office in Williton expressing my objection to the provision of vehicle access along Pemswell Lane to serve a proposed dwelling on the Pemswell Lodge site. Pemswell Lane is a short unclassified road off Moor Road and, with its stream, stepping stones and narrow footpath heading to Pemswell Road, it has been one of North Hill's secret places for a very long time, beloved by residents and visitors alike as a shady spot to pause after a long walk, for dogs to drink and children paddle. It should not be hijacked for evermore simply to facilitate vehicle access for the owners or occupiers of one new dwelling. A previous application (withdrawn) for a large five-bedroom house on this site had the highways authority objecting to a shared access with Pemswell Lodge on Pemswell Road. This should be looked at afresh with this new proposal for a smaller dwelling. If necessary, the entrance could be widened on the uphill side. Pemswell Road, in common with others on North Hill of narrow width, requires motorists to take due care in a residential area, unlike a bust through-route carrying large volumes of heavy traffic.
