FORMER chairman of West Somerset Council Cllr Stuart Dowding joined fellow volunteers in Bicknoller in a tidy-up.
And the parish hopes their good deed will set an example to other communities in the district.
“Bicknoller Parish Council appreciates West Somerset Council’s financial problems - many of which are common to all rural areas - and members pride themselves on not sitting back and complaining that ‘They’ should do something,” said Cllr Dowding.
“The residents are the ‘They’ and, as part of the Tidy Britain campaign a litter pick, trawled the A358 for unsightly discarded rubbish.
“In all, some eight black bin bags, a traffic cone and associated signs, various car parts, some new turf and a whole copy of the Racing Post were all collected.
“This in spite of the road being litter picked around Christmas time!
“There was no need to pick up litter in the village as it is kept clean by residents and thus there is no litter.”
