SIR — I read with great interest and frustration your report last week about the noise from Butlins during the weekend pop concert.

I am not an outright Butlins fan, but I have to say that they do far more for this town than these whingers and moaners who have a go every time they do something to draw visitors in to West Somerset.

I wonder if these people who complain are same ones who go to Taunton every week to do their shopping rather than support the local economy.

I can assure you that it's barely worth opening your shop in Minehead some days, and with what has happened this year with foot and mouth, this extra amount of visitors to the town is very welcome.

Not only is it good for the local economy, it is also a rare opportunity for local people young and old to see top performing acts in Minehead rather than having to travel to the cities.

Why is it that we have so many negative thinking people in Minehead, always knocking and never supporting any thing that might make West Somerset a more attractive place to visit?

With the last piece of prime land on Minehead seafront now having houses built on it rather than an attraction to encourage visitors to Minehead, rest assured we will rely on Butlins even more to provide us with the visitors we depend on.

Maybe the council decided to build houses, rather than have to make these North Hill residents look down on people enjoying themselves, as we can't have that can we?

Maybe these sad people who have nothing better to do than moan should take a look at what's going on in the world right now and realise that if all they they can do is moan about a little bit of noise then they live very sad and selfish lives. There are many people who have died recently who would love to hear the sound of loud music.

Maybe we should cancel Christmas so these people don't have to see people enjoying themselves, because we wouldn't want them to have something else to complain about. Think on!
