MINEHEAD town councillors will invite the leaders of the county and district councils to discuss how a proposed Somerset unitary authority would affect the town, it was decided at a council meeting on Tuesday.

Cllr Terry Venner said: “I believe it is the wrong time for a unitary consultation but it is the right time to invite council leaders to explain to us exactly what unitary council models they are proposing.”

It was agreed to invite Somerset County Council leader Cllr David Fothergill and Somerset West and Taunton leader Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts to meet councillors, either at a virtual meeting, or face-to-face with social distancing.
