SIR — I have been driving each day recently between Minehead and Taunton and inevitably seen the No. 28 buses. I wonder why the ones going to Taunton have just that in the front display, whereas the ones coming to Minehead have ‘Minehead Butlins’. After all, ours is a much smaller town which hardly needs any further defining.

Bearing in mind the great difficulties our residents face in using the service, often having to stand all the way, especially at holiday times, I believe the bus destination display may be partly to blame.

If I were coming on holiday to Butlin’s, especially for the first time, and saw the bus, I would think it was there just for me and my fellow visitors, and that therefore I had every right to put my luggage wherever I could. It is not unusual for hotels and other holiday destinations to provide their own transport for their guests.

Might it be worth removing ‘Butlins’ from the sign, thereby letting everyone know that the bus is a service bus which goes to Minehead and some of the villages in between and is for everybody. I know it’s just a small thing, but it might help.
