When the snow came on Thursday, Minehead Hospital had to carry on as normal.
The staff put on their wellies and made their way in through the snow. Some staff stayed on duty for 24 hours or longer to ensure our patients were cared for.
By Friday the roads were so slippery that cars were not safe. That was when the first hero appeared with a 4x4 to deliver the staff safely for duty.
This kindness continued, with more people offering their services.
With the help of these people the staff did not have to walk home late at night or early in the morning when it was still dark and the roads and pavements slippery with ice.
The fire and rescue 4x4 came to Nicky and my aid in Tesco when we were trying to carry 24 pints of milk back to the hospital. That was a bit of a treat.
I personally would like to thank all the staff who went over and above to continue our service and to the people of Minehead whose kindness helped in our time of need.
Thank you.
Hayley Welsh, Senior Sister, Minehead Community Hospital.
