A FIRE in an office block on the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station construction site on Friday (January 2) was caused by an air conditioning unit.
Smoke was seen issuing from the building just after 3.30 am and Nether Stowey fire crews were mobilised to the incident.
Hinkley’s on-site fire and rescue team were in attendance and had put out the blaze.
The Nether Stowey firefighters used breathing apparatus to help to check the building for any further signs of fire and then ventilated it using positive pressure fans.
A Hinkley C spokesperson said: “The fire started in one of the galleries used to run pipes and cables around the power station.
“We are investigating the cause and will ensure lessons are learned from this event.”
