SIR — We would very much like to thank everyone who came to our help at the scene of our tragic accident on February 5 at Bilbrook.

We would like to thank Claire, James, Matt and Alicia and any other motorist who showed us such compassion and care whilst we waited for the emergency services.

They kept us going by talking, keeping us warm and with constant reassurance. They came out of the dark to help strangers and we are deeply indebted to them.

The emergency services were all fantastic and worked together with such unity and precision to free us.

I would especially like to thank the ambulance people who took such care with my mother. Sadly she died later but they made sure she was warm and comfortable.

The firemen worked with such exemplary team work to cut us free from the car.

Throughout all this the police kept us calm and reassured us by directing operations so efficiently. Our family liaison police officer too has provided us with ongoing support since the accident.

At A and E, Musgrove Park, the same efficiency and reassurance comforted us. Mr Ogilvie, Mr Baines and their team were fantastic. Our medical care was excellent.

We are aware the accident was a little while ago but it is only now that we have recovered enough to be able to properly thank everyone. We are indebted to everyone, words are inadequate to express how grateful we are.

Since our return from hospital, our local community has kept a rota of help going for us. We feel so fortunate to be part of such a supportive and caring community.

Thank you everybody.

Mike and Janet Capel,

St George's Street,

Dunster.
