MINEHEAD county councillor Terry Venner took it on the chin when he was given a hands-on tour of the town's boxing club.

Cllr Venner was persuaded to step into the ring with Reece Hollingsworth (pictured) – although only one of them appeared to be suitably dressed for the occasion!

Cllr Venner was at the club to present a £500 cheque from his health and well-being budget.

Every county councillor has £5,000 to give to projects which encourage people to be fit, healthy and active in their wards.

"I'm pictured in round five with Reece and I'm still standing. Not bad for a 55-year-old man," Cllr Venner said.

The club will use the grant to buy new equipment, including a medicine ball with handles, heavy punchbags, a floor-based speed ball and other general boxing equipment.
