SIR — Further to the letter from Nick Ferris (Free Press April 4), we had friends staying recently and decided to take them and their young family into the town for a walk along the seafront and into town for a bite to eat.
We later found out it was a darts weekend at Butlin's.
The seafront and town was full of crowds of people in fancy dress, worse the wear for drink and using industrial language with no consideration for where they were, a public place.
After about ten minutes we decided for the sake of the children enough was enough and we returned home.
As a resident, I was embarrassed that our friends and their children should be subject to such an unpleasant experience in the middle of the afternoon in my home town.
Never again.
