ANOTHER big screen movie is set to draw visitors to Exmoor, hot on the heels of the release in the spring of ‘The Salt Path’, which tells the story of a couple who walk the South West Coast Path.

This time, it is ‘Unmoored’, a Swedish psychological thriller filmed largely on Exmoor, which is expected to be screened in some local cinemas in mid-August.

It will also be available on major streaming platforms from mid-September, including Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.

The film is an adaptation of ‘The Living and Dead in Winsford’, a novel written by award-winning Swedish crime author Hakan Nesser while he spent several months living in Exmoor National Park.

The story revolves around Maria Holinek, a famous Swedish television presenter who flees Stockholm for Exmoor with her beloved dog Castor when accusations about her husband turn her life upside down.

The extensive Exmoor scenes were shot in late 2021 in and around Simonsbath and its Exmoor Forest Inn pubic house, as well as locations the Barle Valley, Exford, Minehead, and in Wiveliscombe.

Producer Naomi Despres said: “Given the chance to make a film in Exmoor, we would absolutely recommend you do it.

“Embrace the logistical challenges and you will be rewarded with fabulous locations and the cinematic joy of being able to point your camera in any direction and capture something magical.”

“I want to come back and make another film in Exmoor.”

Somerset Council’s film office Screen Somerset supports and promotes filming in the county in recognition of the economic and wider benefits it can bring.

It estimated more than £4 million of spend was brought into the county last year by film and television productions.
