A GROUP of singers from Minehead-based Fusion Young Performers has been presented with the Taunton Festival of the Arts Adjudicator’s Cup – and it came as a surprise.

The group of 18s and under won the senior choir class and gained a distinction at the Festival in February but only recently heard about winning the Adjudicator’s Cup, which was presented last Tuesday (May 29).

The award is presented to a “diverse and outstanding” group which is made up of young people from a variety of different backgrounds or locations.

Under the direction of Sarah-Jane Cross, the Fusion group performed Jellicle Songs, from Cats, and Bastille’s Pompeii in the competition, and included students from the West Somerset College, Minehead Middle School, Richard Huish College and Bridgwater College.

The theatre group is for nine to 24-year-olds and is run by Lorraine Ahern and Sarah-Jane Cross.
