AN Exmoor Pony foal from one of the oldest established herds in existence has swept the trophy board at a top Somerset show.

Eight-month-old Dabinette, bred by Roadwater-based Julian and April Westcott, went home with a clutch of accolades from the Exmoor Pony Christmas Foal Show, which was held at Cannington last week, postponed from last November.

Dabinette, a Herd 1 foal, is by the Westcotts' own stallion Dunkery Nuthatch and out of their Herd 10 mare Mabel.

Herd 1 has been in Julian's family's herd for many years - before the Exmoor Pony Society was even established.

Dabinette started the day by winning her class then went on to take the upcountry foal championship.

She also won the supreme foal championship and after the young stock classes she went head to head for the supreme show champion, which she also won.

And to round the day off, the Westcott's daughter Robyn took the trophy for the best young handler.

The family is no stranger to success and a few years ago another Herd 1 filly, Kerry Pippin, bred and owned by the Westcotts, did the same thing.

Last year their Herd 1 colt Sandew also went nearly all the way, just being pipped into reserve champion place.

"Dabinette is a lovely filly and so full of confidence," said April. "We are absolutely delighted with the results."
