SIR — I was honoured to be part of the Royal Air Force team taking part in the March For Honour from RAF Wittering to the Royal Albert Hall in London, endeavouring to raise £1 million for the Royal British Legion, and on behalf of myself and the whole RAF team I would like to thank everyone for their kind and generous donations.

The support locally and en route was amazing with crowds lining the streets and attending the services at the war memorials.

In Stamford there was a prayer and speeches by commandment general of the RAF, Commodore Russ La Forte, and the director general of the Royal British Legion, Chris Simpkins, who said that 521 members of the armed forces had died in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001, including 40 members of the RAF.

Wreaths were laid by Sgt Leigh Hobson, leader of the RAF team, and SAC Thompson's widow, Jacqui.

The four teams from the RAF, Navy, Army and Marines met in Wootton Bassett where a service was held to open the Garden of Remembrance by Prince Harry. The Prince then presented the teams with the Book of Remembrance to present at The Royal British Legion's National Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Local donations look to exceed £200 and we look to be on track to reach, if not exceed, our goal of £1 million. Once again thank you all.
