TWO 40ft luxury yachts, each weighing over ten tons, were tipped from their supporting legs on Watchet harbourside on Easter Sunday night by winds from Storm Katie gusting at around 70mph.

The yachts, the French-built Celebration and the American-designed Popsie, were being stored for the winter in the Watchet Harbour Marina compound on the East Quay when they toppled over, narrowly missing a 1922 riverboat being converted into a floating restaurant.

Damage is thought to be considerable but cannot be fully assessed until the yachts are righted.

A yachtsman who was sleeping on his boat parked on the quay while working on repairs, said that the storm rocked the boats so violently that he feared for his safety, left his boat and sought refuge in a marina building.
