A PETITION to save a young children’s play park in Stogursey from being developed into two homes as part of a proposed estate development has been launched by local residents.

The petition is gathering names after being placed in the local post office and elsewhere in the village, and is addressed to West Somerset Council saying village residents “object most strongly” to the proposal by developers Strongvox at Paddons Farm.

The developers’ application is to vary already approved plans to increase the number of homes from 59 to 66, and includes re-siting the play park to another area that residents say is out of sight, floods, and would have poor replacement for the existing equipment.

Eighteen objections have been sent to West Somerset Council, saying claims that the play park is in poor repair or not well used are not true, and that Strongvox was reneging on its commitment to provide a suitable facility for the small children of families on the development and for use by the larger village community.

Stogursey Parish Council said in its comments to West Somerset Council it was concerned about a proposed new site for the play area.
