WATCHET'S celebrations to mark St George's Day were 'piped' into life last Saturday.
Local bagpiper Freddie Bacon led a procession through the streets with town crier Alec Danby giving the event a powerful voice.
Rainbows, brownies and guides from the Williton and District unit, along with cubs, sea scouts and explorer scouts from the 1st Watchet troop marched from The Esplanade, along Harbour Road and back through the town.
The procession culminated in a special service on the Esplanade, taken by Shirley Harrington, a lay reader at the town's St Decuman's Church.
The parade heralded the start of an afternoon of entertainment organised by Watchet LIVE.
Sunshine and blue skies provided the perfect backdrop for a community picnic, with attractions ranging from a Punch and Judy show and country dancing by local schoolchildren to campfire singing and a performance by the Stogursey Poetry Group.
And organisers staged a flag waving finale to some rousing traditional music provided by Mick Cleveland.
Williton and District Guides commissioner Kirsty Cornish said she was very grateful to Watchet LIVE for allowing the St George's Day parade to be part of the event.
"We had a good turnout and everybody a really nice day," she said.
