GUIDES and scouts in West Somerset are switching the location of their annual St George's Day parade this year.

For the first time in many years, the celebrations will be based in Minehead, rather than the traditional Dunster venue.

The event will take place on Sunday (April 17) with a parade through the town led by the Tiverton Town Band.

The marchers will leave Minehead railway station at 2.15pm and follow a route along The Avenue for a service at the Methodist church, which gets underway at 2.30pm and which parents are welcome to attend.

Roughly an hour later the parade will return to the railway station.

Williton District Guides will hold their celebration of England's patron saint on St George's Day itself - April 23.

They will parade through the town at 3pm before being joined by members of Watchet's carnival committee for a get together on The Esplanade.
