SIR — How much weight can we give to these favourable feasibility studies which promote a sports/social centre (Free Press October 1) and put on hold the aspirations for a new swimming pool?
Have these latest feasibility studies taken into consideration the fact that the West Somerset Sports and Leisure Centre was turned into a charitable trust rather than be subsidised by the council?
Will this new venture become a sports facility subsidised by the other activities this site may offer?
Is there a real need for another sports hall?
I regularly use the existing sports hall for two hours every Wednesday evening and very rarely is there more than one court in use. Where are all the interested parties?
Finally, the earning annually for this new facility has been given as £25,000. How much of that is genuine new money, not just money taken away from other businesses in the area?
What we need is a new swimming pool facility for the West Somerset area.
This may cost more to build but it would allow access and give a health benefit to a wide range of people and bring genuine new money into the area.
