We residents of Minehead have been asked for suggestions as to how some of the funding that has been allocated to the town could be used.

I know that this money is for the enhancement of the seafront, and I welcome that, but I would like to make a suggestion that the pavements in the town, which are a disgrace and so very dangerous for pedestrians, need completely resurfacing.

The paving stones are loose, the patchwork is sinking and the tree roots are very dangerous and generally spoil the overall look of the town.

I speak from experience as I have had two falls over the last two years, resulting in broken kneecaps, from which I am still recovering, and as a result of these injuries I have had one hip replacement and am due to to have another in the near future.

After an unsuccessful attempt to hold the council responsible for the first fall over the state of the tree roots, I felt I had to write and make this suggestion.

Our town is a lovely, friendly country seaside town, but I feel it is important that the safety and condition of the pavements should be a major consideration.

The seafront is very important and needs brightening up, but I feel the residents and visitor need to be considered, not only from the safety point of view but also the general look of the town.

We have lovely flower displays every year in the town, the approach roads are now well-kept and attractive, and the town is well cared for and clean. We have a good selection of shops, the added attraction of the West Somerset Railway and the beautiful Exmoor National Park on our doorstep, making Minehead a lovely place to live and to visit.

So please consider spending a little of the money on keeping us all safe and free from the sort of accidents I have experienced.

June Ash, Bowline Court, Minehead.
