SIR — Having just been to see W S Atkins, who are responsible for all the roads in the Bridgwater constituency, I was pleased to find that they are now responding extremely quickly to complaints from the public.
It is not always possible for them to be able to do everything the public wants, and certainly some of the road problems we have here are horrendous, but at least there is somebody you can talk to.
The thing that concerns me most is that they do not feel that they are going to have a decent budget to do major improvements for a very long time.
Somerset County Council, who are responsible ultimately for road improve- ments and for capital funding, should now sit on Government very hard indeed, especially with the announcement of the new spending programme from Central Government and make sure we do get money for improvements within the Bridgwater Constituency.
We all know the problems that we have got in this constituency with roads, flooding, narrowness and generally winding, but the Government should look at rural areas and areas that need spending now.
They have put money aside for it, why is it not being spent where it matters — in areas that need it?
