A DEDICATED taxi service for elderly and disabled people living on Exmoor was officially launched during last Monday's storms.

The wet weather forced the assembled local dignitories, including county and district councillors, inside for the launch of the specially adapted estate car.

Brushford Private Hire has installed a wider opening front passenger door and a swivel front seat into the car to make it easier for passengers to get in and out.

The service, called Outback, is available for Exmoor residents to use while visiting friends, the shops, doctors or even hospital.

Company director Mike Clothier said: "I was determined to find a way to make transport and access to rural services easier."

He was given help from the Countryside Agency, Business Link Somerset and Somerset County Council Community Transport to turn his ideas into reality.

Pictured at the launch are, from the left, Mr Clothier, West Somerset District Council leader and Exmoor ward member Cllr Steven Pugsley, Upper Tone county Cllr Ashley Gray, John Woods of Business Link Somerset and Dulverton county Cllr John Edwards.
