West Somerset College student Sophie Hooper won gold this week at the West Midlands Regional School Pistol Championships.

She fought off stiff competition from 37 other competitors and will now take her place in the national finals at Stoke Mandeville in January.

Sophie trains twice a week at Minehead Rifle and Pistol Club. A spokesman for the club said: “We are all really proud of her sheer determination and commitment to the sport.”
