YOUNG tuba player Sophie Whitworth has been awarded a place in the prestigious National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain.
Sophie has been playing the contrabass tuba with West Somerset Brass Band and its training band for the past two years.
She has also just passed her grade four exam with distinction.
A spokesman said: “The band are very proud of Sophie and all of their young training band players who have also had success in taking exams over the past year, under the direction and tuition of Claire Whitworth, brass teacher and training band leader.

“No previous experience necessary and instruments are provided.
“However, we would particularly welcome experienced cornet players to fill a couple of vacancies in the main band.”
