A flag raising ceremony at County Hall will honour emergency workers on this year's Emergency Services Day.

The ceremony will be overseen by the Chair of Somerset Council, Mike Beast, and Taunton mayor, Cllr Nick O'Donnell.

A special Emergency Services Day flag will be flown from all of the council's main offices in the run up to the occasion which takes place on September 9.

Councillor Mike Best said: "We’re proud to show support for our local emergency services by flying the 999 Flag.  Events over the last few years have only served to highlight their dedication and we’re grateful to have the opportunity to show our lasting appreciation.”

Councillor Nick O’Donnell added:

“Our blue light services are always there for us when we need them, working tirelessly to serve and protect our community, and it’s an honour to host this event to acknowledge their sacrifice and give thanks for their dedication in safeguarding our health and safety.”
